Community Briefs

  • Craft Lake City is accepting applications for artisans to participate in this year’s Holiday Market. The market will take place both in-person and online, and Utah-based artisans are invited to apply for one or both. Applications for the in-person market (which will take place Dec. 4-5 at The Monarch in Ogden) are due Oct. 13, and applications for the online market (which will run Nov. 1-30) are due Oct. 20.   • Downtown Salt Lake City will host “Open Street” events each Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from 6-10 p.m. through Oct. 10. This will include expanded patio service areas for restaurants, as well as buskers and artist activations in various locations from Exchange Place to City Creek Center. Parts of Main Street will be closed to automobile traffic and open to pedestrians. Physical distancing, face coverings and frequent disinfecting are requested, and face masks are required upon entry to restaurants and shops. For more information, go to downtownslc.org
  • Utah Valley University’s Writers Academy Conference is moving online this year. The virtual conference will begin Oct. 9, with events taking place through Nov. 6. Presentations will be given live every Thursday evening, and all the presentations will be recorded and made available to attendees to watch at any time. Admission to the conference is $65, or $30 for students. For more information, go to uvu.edu/conferences/writers-academy.
  • Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum is moving this year’s Witches and Wizards Tea Magic School online. Classes will be held virtually, and participants will have a magical school supply kit delivered to their house. The event will take place on Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. (must register by Oct. 12).
